Tullamore International Summer Organ Series

Peter Strauven, organist and musicologist, studied organ with Prof. Joris Verdin at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Besides his activities as recitalist, he is in demand as orchestral player (organ & harmonium) and as accompanist for choral works. He is currently preparing a doctoral dissertation on Flemish keyboard music in the eighteenth century. His publications include contributions on newly discovered organ manuscripts, Gregorian chant, modality, organ builders, etc. He has worked also on Antwerp eighteenth-century mass compositions and on the Flemish opera-repertoire from the same period. As titular organist of Antwerp’s St. James’ Church, he plays the French-romantic Anneessens-organ (1884) and will supervise the forthcoming restoration of the church’s second organ, the historical instrument by the famous builder J. B. Forceville (1727). To promote the instruments in this church, he has founded and is artistic director of ‘Organiek’, organizing each year an international organ recital series.
