Tullamore International Summer Organ Series

Maurice Clerc was born in Lyon in 1946 and is an organ graduate of the École Normale of Music in Paris as a student of Suzanne Chaisemartin. Further studies were undertaken at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris where he gained the Premier Prix in organ in the class of Rolande Falcinelli. Studies in improvisation with the renowned organist of Notre-Dame de Paris, Pierre Cochereau resulted in his winning the improvisation prize at an international competition in Lyon in 1977. Maurice Clerc has been Titular Orgaist of the cathedral in Dijon for over 40 years, and was also professor of organ in the conservatory in that city. As a recitalist Clerc has enjoyed the highest of reputations, having given over 1300 recitals in some twenty countries in four continents. He has recorded a dozen CDs embracing the widest range of organ repertoire. He is a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur.
